Five days of paid volunteering leave per year – enshrined in law

Initiatives and petitions are causes raised by residents, members or groups themselves – independently of ongoing participatory processes. Whoever starts an initiative describes the cause and collects signatures online. Once the required number is reached, the responsible body has to deal with it.
This demo includes three examples: a residents’ motion to a municipal council (100 signatures), a petition to a ministry (500) and a member motion to the general assembly of an association (25). All organisations are fictional.

Five days of paid volunteering leave per year – enshrined in law
Without volunteers there would be no rescue services, no tutoring, no food banks and no club life. Yet more and more volunteers give up because their commitment is hard to combine with work and family.
We call on the Ministry for Society and Civic Engagement to include in the new Civic Engagement Act:
An entitlement to up to five days of paid leave per year for volunteer assignments and training.
Reimbursement of wage costs for small businesses with fewer than 50 employees.
A simple confirmation issued by the volunteer organisation.
Volunteering must not be a privilege of those who can afford the time. With your signature you strengthen everyone who stands up for others.
