Initiatives and petitions are causes raised by residents, members or groups themselves – independently of ongoing participatory processes. Whoever starts an initiative describes the cause and collects signatures online. Once the required number is reached, the responsible body has to deal with it.

This demo includes three examples: a residents’ motion to a municipal council (100 signatures), a petition to a ministry (500) and a member motion to the general assembly of an association (25). All organisations are fictional.

Climate-neutral association work by 2030

As an umbrella organisation we stand for a fair society worth living in – and that includes taking responsibility for the climate in our own work.

We move that the general assembly resolves:

  1. By mid-2028 the association will produce a carbon footprint of its office, events and travel.

  2. Association meetings will preferably take place at venues easily reachable by public transport; rail before air.

  3. A climate fund of 5,000 euros per year will support member organisations in their own climate action.

  4. By 2030 the office will operate climate-neutrally.

Support the motion so that it is put on the agenda of the next general assembly!

Example motion on the demo platform – the umbrella organisation Gemeinsam Wirken is fictional.
